The Ultimate 7 day Grand Canyon Road Trip

Day 1: Saturday – July 22, 2017

Fly Charlotte – Albuquerque

Drive to hotel near Mesa Verde, CO 4 to 5 hours

1^st night – Super 8 Cortez, Co

1:49 Arrival in Albuquerque – eat, go to Wal-Mart or wherever

4:00 pm Leave for Chaco Culture National Historic Park 3hr. 1 min.

8:00 pm Arrive at Chaco Culture National Historic Park – open until sunset 8:20

9:00 pm Leave for hotel 2hr. 46 mins.

11:00 pm Arrive at Super 8

Coming out of Dulce, NM we got a flat tire which put us behind schedule some.  Luckily the park was open to campers, so it really didn’t “close”.  We stayed until we couldn’t see any more.  The drive to Cortez, however, was very dark and the street signs in NM are terrible.  I think we missed our turn, but someone managed to reroute to the hotel.  There is no cell service in many parts on the trip, so make sure to print out the route or mark up an atlas.  That’s right!  Do you remember those?

Day 2: Sunday – July 23, 2017

Mesa Verde, CO

Drive to hotel near Monument Valley, UT

2^nd night – Super 8 Blanding, UT

7:30 am Leave for Mesa Verde 12 mins.

12:00 pm Leave for Lunch and Four Corners  55 mins.

1:30 pm Arrive at Four Corners (8:00 am to 7:45 pm)

5:00 pm Leave for hotel at Blanding, UT

6:15 pm Arrive at Super 8

Our schedule was altered quite a bit because we had to get a new tire and of course it happened to be Sunday.  Luckily in Cortez, there is a Wal-Mart with a Denny’s within walking distance.  We ate dinner at Destination Grill in Cortez, CO.

Mesa Verde was amazing! 

Day 3: Monday – July 24, 2017

Arches National Park

Drive to hotel near Escalante, Grand Staircase, UT

2.5 to 3 hours

3^rd night – Tropic, UT

Day 4: Tuesday – July 25, 2017

Grand Staircase – Escalante National Monument, UT

Drive to hotel near Grand Canyon North Rim, 2.5 to 3 hours

Stop at Horseshoe Bend in Page, AZ off Hwy 89

4^th night – Red Feather Lodge Grand Canyon Village

Day 5: Wednesday – July 26, 2017

Grand Canyon, South Rim

5^th night – Haulapai Lodge Peach Springs, AZ

8:00 am Arrive at Grand Canyon

5:00 pm Leave for hotel 2hrs. 2 mins.

7:00 pm Arrive at Hualapai Lodge

Day 6: Thursday – July 27, 2017

Havasu Falls

6^th night – Best Western A Wayfarer’s Inn and Suites Kingman, AZ
